Emily Burnham had an epiphany, an epiphany about how just how shallow her life was. So she made the change to be a better person, to do that it meant getting away from her ever so controlling mother. As a result, guess what, she finds she really likes the real world!!!
Nixon Caldwell has served two tours in Afghanistan with the Marine Corps, his Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), a bullet wound and some severe anger issues mixes with huge amount of guilt. Surrounding himself in what he likes best, isolation, he lives his life. Then one day an accident brings him face to face with Emily.
I found this novel to be simply great. It touches sensitively on the trauma of been involved in a war, how people deal differently with this and how hard they struggle with forming relationships when they get home. The story of how he copes and how a service dog can change there day.
I read Emily and Nix’s story in a day and loved it. Emily is fiesty and loving. This is just what Nix is in need of.
