War has taken everything from me. My family. My home. My innocence. In a country blasted by war and wracked by economic hardship, a young orphan girl like me has very few options when it comes to survival. Thus, I do what I must to live, to eat, and I try very hard to not consider the cost to my soul. My heart is empty, and my existence brutal.
The one impossibility in my life is love.
And then I meet HIM.
~ * ~ * ~
War is hell. It takes a chunk out of a man’s very soul to do the kinds of things war demands of you. You live with fear, you live with guilt, and you live with nightmares. If you haven’t been through it, there’s no understanding it. War leaves no room for love, no room for tenderness or softness. You gotta be hard, closed off, and ready to fight every moment of every day. Lose focus for a split second, and you’re dead.
Now the only thing that can save me is HER.
This book is so good it gives you chill’s, and i forgot to breath in parts, superb plot!
The realism flows out of this book, and the visual description transports you there, pulls you in with such a force it gives you whiplash.
Both the main characters have been through such harrowing moments in there lives, but Jasinder Wilder writes in such a way you could be living there lives, at that moment it could all be happening to you, you get so into the story itself.
The fear that Rania feels, the defeat, the emotions how she keeps herself together is truly remarkable. How Rania manages to live in a war torn country like Iraq, and is forced into prostitution just to eat, she is so strong your heart goes out to her, you feel like you want to help her in some way, heal her hurt, the book makes it so real.
Rania’s compassion towards Hunter is outstanding as he is gunned down in the street, he should be her enemy but she takes him back to her meager home, nurses him and shares the little food she has, continues to sell herself so he has some medicine.
Hunter has had it tough, losing both his parent at a young age, hes a tough marine to the core full of honor, courage, loyalty, Integrity, he was a true gentleman with Rania, he see’s past what Rania must do to simply survive, he see’s Rania the person, the woman. He is truly soul deep a good man a true hero. totally hot and swoon worthy.
Hunter protects Rania even though he is so much in pain he has a need to keep her safe when no one ever in her life has done that for her.
Im so glad the relationship development was a slow burn in this book, that they didnt just jump into bed together just because Rania is a prostitute.
This book provides you with both Hunter and Rania’s point of view so you get both side of the story, the feelings and emotions, the story from both ends of the gun so to speak which makes the story that bit more intense.
This book is a remarkable story one of the best books ive read in a while, it will burn itself onto your brain and will keep you thinking.
A highly recommended read for anyone, dont let the war aspect put you off its just so much more!
