Cake – Nicole Reed

Would you be willing to make a mess of your life to get exactly what you want?

Kylie Lord has known Trent Moss and Dray Savage since college. Trent, the smart and kind-hearted humanitarian has had her heart from the moment they met, but someone else always had his. Dray is an arrogant professional football player who happens to be Trent’s best friend and Kylie’s nemesis “with benefits.”

Three years after graduation, Kylie is commanding the world with a successful business; however, she lacks the one thing she wants and the one thing she can never have. That is, until one fateful day when Kylie decides to go after all of her forbidden fantasies and risk everything.
Two men, completely different and poles apart, but together they are her idea of perfection. One can only offer her tonight and the other forever, but can Kylie settle for just one man, or can she have her cake and eat it too?

I liked this book it has a wonderful love triangle going on, its messy and complicated not always smooth going.

Kylie is a great character, she has loved Trent all her life holds him up on a pedestal. I felt that Kylie was a bit of a door mat regarding Trent i was so glad when she finally opened her eyes about him. I did love the relationship Kylie had with her aunt, her words of wisdom were great.

I couldnt warm to Trent at all he just came across as a arrogant ass and a bit of a user, even though he does all this great humanitarian work in other countries, he seemed to treat Kylie as a doormat, Dray on the other hand i loved him.
Dray is a cocky ass to start with, he makes smart mouth quips towards Kylie but that is just to cover his feelings for her because he knows how she feels about Trent, they are the perfect frienemies .

The more time Dray and Kylie spend together the more they learn about each other, the chemistry builds and the sexual tension becomes more than they can take. Then comes the proposition of a just sex no strings relationship. Kylie and Dray together really burn up the sheets, they have so much chemistry its so damn sexy.
The love triangle between these three characters was just great perfect amounts of angst, pain, and joy.

BUT

Yes there is a but, i found some elements of this story a bit lacking or just had me thinking whats that all about??
The whole damage to Kylie’s car and the hate mail it was there but didnt really go anywhere, just stopped with a phone call.
The whole Lil Rip threat just fizzled without anyone really knowing, then there was the relationship with Madison she was like a sister one minute then treating Kylie badly because she didnt like Madison’s boyfriend.

The side story with Nick and Madison was like a small thread that popped in and out but we didnt really get any details to really keep you that interested, the at the end we got Nick POV for one scene in the book had me thinking WTH, i mean i liked his POV but it didnt seem to go with the rest of the book.

The epilogue was ok but it felt like i had missed a big part of the story and it was rushed, i really wanted to read about how the got to that point not just they got there HEA.

Over all it was a nice read with some good twist and turns but it could have been so much more gripping.
