Nova Reed used to have dreams of becoming a famous drummer, of marrying her true love. But all of that was taken away in an instant. Now she’s getting by as best she can, though sometimes that means doing things the old Nova would never do. Things that are slowly eating away at her spirit. Every day blends into the next, until she meets Quinton Carter.
Quinton once got a second chance at life, but he doesn’t want it. The tattoos on his chest are a constant reminder of what he’s done, what he’s lost. He’s sworn to never allow happiness into his life, but then beautiful, sweet Nova makes him smile. He knows he’s too damaged to get close to her, yet she’s the only one who can make him feel alive again. Quinton will have to decide: does he deserve to start over? Or should he pay for his past forever?
This book is so angst ridden and filled with Nova and Quinton’s pain and helplessness, it leaves you with such a heartache you just want to reach into the pages and hug them to make them both better, the tears flow and you insides hurt.
Watching two essentially good people slowly destroy themselves is never any fun, but it is very compelling reading.
The deep love that both Quinton and Nova felt for there lost loves is so consuming that neither of them know how to go on without them, for Quinton he numbs his world with weed Nova she finds control in counting her steps, the cracks in the pavement, the breaths she takes just to get through the day.
They both want to disappear and fade away.
When Nova and Quinton meet they find feelings neither thought they would ever find again never mind experience, its hard to ignore, as the roller coaster of emotions bombard them.
Quinton feels the need to shelter Nova from his drug riddled world, and Nova wants to save Quinton from his downward spiral.
I really felt for Quinton I understand where he is coming from, how the guilt is suffocating him and probably the only person who can save him is Nova, and i think Quinton is the only one that can save Nova, to push her to want to get better for herself to find her inner strength, but boy is that going to be a test of both there characters.
I loved every angst filled moment of this book, its a top 5 star read for me and i cannot wait for the next book to continue Nova and Quinton’s story.
Jessica Sorensen sure can weave a story of beautifully broken characters with the best of them, i found this book to be captivating and unique, its sad and written with such raw emotion.
