From the USA Today Best Selling Sweet Home Series, comes Sweet Fall; a tale of heartache, beating the odds and finding strength in the most unlikeliest of places.
We all have secrets.
Secrets well buried.
Until we find the one soul who makes the burden of such secrets just that little bit easier to bear.
Lexington “Lexi” Hart is a senior at the University of Alabama. Surrounded by her best friends, her loving family and having fulfilled her life-long dream of making the Crimson Tide cheer squad, everything is going exactly as she always dreamed it would. But beneath her happy exterior, demons lurk, threatening to jeopardize everything Lexi has worked to achieve.
When events in her life become too much to cope with, Lexi finds herself spiraling down into the realm of her biggest fear. Lexi falls hard, victim once again to the only thing that can destroy her and, on the way, finds herself falling straight into the dangerous tattooed arms of a guy from the wrong side of the tracks.
Austin Carillo, starting Wide Receiver for the Alabama Crimson Tide, must get picked in this year’s NFL draft. He needs it. His brothers need it. Most importantly, his mother desperately needs it. Brought up in a world where the poor are forgotten, the sick are left to fend for themselves and no hero miraculously appears to pull you out of hell, Austin had no other choice but to make a living on the wrong side of the law—until football offered Austin the break to get his life back on track.
But when a family tragedy drags him back into the clutches of the gang he believed he had left far behind, Austin finds himself falling. Falling back into criminal ways and falling deep into a suffocating darkness. Until a troubled yet kindred spirit stumbles across his path, where Austin quickly finds he is falling for a young woman—a young woman who might just have the power to save him from his worst enemy: himself.
Can two troubled souls find a lasting peace together? Or will they finally succumb to the demons threatening to destroy them?
*CAN BE READ AS A STAND-ALONE NOVEL*
This is one if the best books I have ever read, a book hasn’t affected me like this in a long time. The whole story just blew me away, how two people with a definite image of themselves can see so much beauty in another broken soul.
Sweet fall makes for a very powerful reading experience It’s incredibly painful to read at times, full of angst, sorrow and agonizing loneliness. it’s gritty and raw but so very bitter sweet at the same time, it’s hard to put into words how amazing this whole reading experience was.
This story will make your heart hurt more than any book I have read for a while, it fills you with so many clashing emotions it will give you a book hangover, and have the stories words in your head long after you have finished the last page.
Austin has, on the outside this perfect life, he is a wide receiver for Crimson Tide’s football team playing with his best friend Rome who is like a brother to him. He’s working hard to try and make the NFL, girls at the drop of a hat.
But when you look behind the shiny exterior his life is a mess, his brother is in one of the worst gangs in the area, his mom is really sick with ALS and needs more and more pain medication to make her feel comfortable, his younger brother has been drawn into gang life to help pay for the pain meds, his brothers are dealing coke on his collage campus, he’s so close to being expelled.
Lexi is the cute goth chick Who oozes happiness, she has good health, friends, she’s a awesome cheerleader, or that’s what everyone around her sees, she is faking everything in her life.
Under the big smiles Lexi is broken, fragile and at moments very scared. Under the dark make up and black dyed hair all Lexi sees is she’s ugly and sad and alone. Lexi is trapped and dealing with her anorexia in the only way she knows how, by hiding.
At times I felt it hard to read not because the writing was bad, it was just the issues involved in the book, when Lexi was starving herself wasting away on each page, it was like my insides were being shredded, I wanted to shake her to make her stop but then I knew she was struggling and in a way very brave.
Then there was Austin thinking of getting involved with the gang again to help with the cash flow for his moms meds, I was literally screaming inside, no please no.
Tillie Cole has done such a good giving us both Austin’s and Lexi’s point of view, it was like seeing inside each of there souls. You learn there heart breaking secrets and get a glimpse of what there life is like, to see inside there minds.
This is so much more than the sweet pretty love story we got in Sweet Home, is hard and painful but so worth the pain.
“We were both just too messed up to ever be with each other in the way we needed to be. Two shooting stars that burned out too quickly, never quite reaching each other’s skies.”
This book gave us a hard rough edged, not so perfect hero. He made mistakes and bad decisions but he was strong and deep down kind, always trying to do the right thing if by the wrong means. I just loved him as a character.
Sweet Fall Is dark and real, totally captivating and it hurts to read it, but by god you will be glad you did. There will be tears and lots of them. This is a must read.
Another master piece for Tillie Cole.
