A figure from Dexter’s past has uprooted all the memories he has tried so desperately to bury… to forget. The terrible events of his past have been blown wide open once again, immersing him a pool of guilt deeper than he’s even experienced before.
Dexter feels powerless. The future he foolishly allowed himself to conceive is falling apart around him and there’s nothing he can do about it. But there’s one thing he can control – one thing he’s an expert at… blocking everything out. Losing all control, Dexter copes the only way he knows how – he dives so far into the well of addiction, the only thing that matters anymore is where his next fix is coming from.
Mission accomplished – there’s no one left. He’s successfully pushed everyone away. Nobody left to care about means no more guilt, right? You can’t hurt people who aren’t there…
But has he really pushed Emily as far away as he thinks he has? She’s given up everything for him – her home, her friends… her whole life. And she doesn’t regret a single thing. But can she save him from drowning, or has he finally sunk too far?
Bloody hell Nicola Haken really knows how to write a story that will tear you up inside have you hurting for the characters and crying like a baby!
Hold On Tight starts just where Take My Hand left off and we are thrown right back into the story.
This book contains lots of anger, sadness, betrayal, love and hope. Nicola Haken doesnt sugar coat the shit and hard times that Dexter goes through, it’s raw and realistic and totally heart breaking and emotional.
Nicola Haken has put together such a realistic portrait of addiction and what it is like struggling with addiction that it will break your heart to read, but it will still have you hoping for more for Dexter and Emily.
Dexter has fallen so deep into his addiction and Emily is holding on by the skin of her teeth trying to keep a tight grip on life and Dexter. The love that Emily has for Dexter is unwavering but there comes a point when she has to say goodbye just to see if Dex can pull his way back. ‘Never forget that i love you’ let me tell you the tears were huge!
We see Dexter face his addiction with fear and openness but head on, he finally sees that he has something to live for and its not just the drugs, he has Emily. Dexter’s councilor is fantastic a great character.
