The Shadows: #13 (Black Dagger Brotherhood Series) – J R Ward

Two brothers bound by more than blood fight to change a brutal destiny in the heart-wrenching new novel of the Black Dagger Brotherhood by Sunday Times bestselling author J. R. Ward.

Trez “Latimer” doesn’t really exist. And not just because the identity was created so that a Shadow could function in the underbelly of the human world. Sold by his parents to the Queen of the S’Hsibe as a child, Trez escaped the Territory and has been a pimp and an enforcer in Caldwell, NY for years- all the while on the run from a destiny of sexual servitude. He’s never had anyone he could totally rely on . . . except for his brother, iAm.

iAm’s sole goal has always been to keep his brother from self-destructing- and he knows he’s failed. It’s not until the Chosen Serena enters Trez’s life that the male begins to turn things around… but by then it’s too late. The pledge to mate the Queen’s daughter comes due and there is nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, and no negotiating.

Trapped between his heart and a fate he never volunteered for, Trez must decide whether to endanger himself and others- or forever leave behind the female he’s in love with. But then an unimaginable tragedy strikes and changes everything. Staring out over an emotional abyss, Trez must find a reason to go on or risk losing himself and his soul forever. And iAm, in the name of brotherly love, is faced with making the ultimate sacrifice . . .

This is book 13 and the genius that is J R Ward still gives us a fresh and intense, emotional read that has you hooked and captivated from start to finish. The whole cast of the BDB are still as wonderful as the very first book, you want to live through the words and fall into the story and want more as soon as your finished. It is going to be such a long assed wait until we get the next book in 2016!

God damn Mrs Ward, this is without a doubt one of the saddest books in this series so far, i was totally broken for a good while after reading this, i wanted so much for Trez after the crap hand he had been dealt, but no, that’s not how you saw Trez life going. Please tell me there will be a future happy for Trez??
Trez and Selena’s journey was heart breaking but a magical road traveled. It is like walking down narrow path full of rose bushes filled with thorns, but the flowers are so very beautiful and smell so sweet you just cannot stop walking and getting torn up by those thorns.
Trez and Selena managed to cram so much into the short time they were given, together they lived a thousand nights in a mere handful of days. The joy they had in there dates made me smile.
The lengths that iAm and the brothers went too, to show Trez how much he was a part of a family, and to be there if Selena needed help was awe inspiring.
I was a sobbing mess for the most part of this book but even as the tears were falling i had a smile on my face at moments of reading.
J R Ward’s books bring me so much joy even when the tears are falling! bloody loved it.
5 stars all the way.
