Marley: A Carnage Novel – Lesley Jones

‘So, they want me to write a book? They want to know about my band, my life, my loves and my losses. But they have no idea what they’re asking for. If I give them what they want, they’ll get so much more than the sex and drugs and the rock and roll they’re expecting. They’ll get the secrets that I’ve kept for so long, they’ll get an insight into the person I really am, or at least was. They think they know my story, they know nothing.
If I do this, if I write honestly and give them the ugly truth, people will get hurt. People that I love, people that have already suffered in the worst possible ways.
Do I do this, or do I walk away? Taking my secrets to the grave.’
Marley is an adult contemporary romance. It contains content suitable only for grownups with an open mind. There are scenes of group sex which include m/f/m a little bit of f/m/m and even some f/f/f/m/m/f/f/f. There is drinking and drug taking involved. A lot of swearing, some Essex slang and some very high emotion. Please don’t complain after reading this book that you wasn’t warned.
And yes, of course you’ll need tissues.

Sweet Jesus the blurb on Amazon says you need tissues and need them i did.
This book is brilliant, to take a story we have read, know the outcome of and fallen in love with. A story that has made you laugh and ugly cry in epic proportions and make it feel new again is a work of genius. The way in which Lesley Jones has written this book feels like reliving a familiar story but seeing it through different eyes, Marley shows us the other side of events, takes us through them as he saw and lived them.
I have adored every word, i have felt every emotion that Lesley has woven into the pages. The love pours off the pages between Maca an G, the connection the Layton family and there extended family have, the pain caused by life events. The tears flowed in epic proportions through it all.
For me the Carnage trilogy of books is one of those stories you cannot let go of, you find yourself thinking about it at random times long after you have read it. This story has touched deep in my soul and is impossible to forget.
To read in effect a book that you already know the basic outcome of and have it evoke the same gut wrenching emotions as the very first time you read it, is a true testament to a wonderful writer.
The epilogue, WOW those last words from Marley had me sobbing, god the tears are back as type this, blurred vision and typing not so easy. The ending was so very fitting for Marley and the bond he shared with Maca.
There are not enough stars in the sky to rate this book or the Carnage collection as a whole.
Lesley Jones books are a must read for sure.
