My first memory was of a slap, hard across the face: the sting on my cheek and the jarring of my bones as I slammed back into my bed. It was my dad who had hit me.
I had been four.
Most of my memories were much of the same and no one ever saw, no one ever fought to help, no one ever cared.
Then we moved.
My new neighbour cared, rescued the twelve-year-old I had been from a beating. Always thought I’d suffer the nightmare alone, I was wrong.
Mace Donati saved me that day in all the ways a person could be saved.
And his daughter, Mia, she became the friend I had always wanted, my conscience when my own faltered, the light that led me home when I had lost my way.
The girl who grew into the only woman I would ever love.
But when you realize you’re more like your father than the good people who took you in and gave you a home, the only way to return their kindness is to let them go.
I let them go, got so far lost in the shadows I couldn’t remember who I was anymore. Mia never gave up on me. She fought for me, kept the light on so I’d find my way back.
And when I did, life threw us a curveball. I had to hurt Mia in order to save her.
But when my past comes back to haunt me and I almost lose her, I’m ready to fight for her…fight to find a way back into her heart while keeping the demons from my past from finishing what they started.
Let me start by saying i adore everything about this book, from the cover to the characters, the plot line to the epilogue.
His Light in the Dark was a journey that spanned years throughout Cole and Mia’s lives. The story followed them as they grew from young kids to adults, and i have to say in previous books the from adults to kids story line has not been for me, but not so in this case. The fact that you do get Cole and Mia’s live from when they were kids cements the story for me, you understand the connection between them so much better.
L.A. Fiore has blown me away with the writing within this book, i was captivated sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the next twist to hit me, the suspense at times was nail biting. This book is the epitamy of love and the lengths the characters go to to keep the people they love safe.
His light in the dark will touch on every emotion your body is capable of, you will journey through friendship, angst, anger, pain and heartache to name but a few.
But the biggest emotion i felt throughout this book is pure love, Mace’s love for his child, Mia’s childhood love for the broken boy from next door, Cole’s love for Mace as a true father figure, for love they all made some sacrifice.
This is an outstanding read for me, and i would like the thank L.A. Fiore for the surprise at the end of the book you made my heart smile and all was right in the world.x
